The Beginner’s level of FLES has been redesigned. It is now broken into a Fall and a Spring session, each 12 weeks long. A child may sign up for the Fall, and decide later whether to continue for the Spring. Or a child who isn’t certain about handling the commitment with his or her homework load can take only the Spring session.
But, this has an exciting side effect. Since it is no longer a full-year commitment, we have more flexibility to recruit students to try French or Chinese for 12 weeks. If you are interested in either of these languages, and have a 2nd-5th grader at Forest Knolls this year, contact me by email: fles@fkespta.org. We’d like a group of 12, ideally, but we can see what will work out.
Another new thing, I am on the hunt for an apprentice. If you would like to learn the job of FLES coordinator, meet plenty of Forest Knolls children, parents and staff (and answer their questions) and, in general, be prepared to head your own committee in the 2012-2013 school year, this is your opportunity to get a full year of training from someone experienced in the job, ME.
Love and great wishes for the 2011-2012 school year,
Kirsten Frank
FLES Committee Chair
