Latino Community Liaison

What: The Latino Community Liaison works to create a PTA that is welcoming and inclusive for our Latino community.  This year I will strive to facilitate Latino parents’ participation and engagement in school activities, volunteerism, and PTA work.   In addition,  I hope to assist Spanish speaking families in understanding the role the PTA plays in their children’s education and elementary school experience.

Needed:  Parents and FKES community members interested in strengthening the presence and involvement of Latino parents at FKES!  Plan to have fun!

  • Volunteers fluent in written English and Spanish to translate PTA literature from English to Spanish.  Translations will be rotated among volunteers.
  • Volunteers fluent in spoken English and Spanish for simulataneous translation at meetings and occasional events.  All translation equipment is provided by PTA.
  • Volunteers to coordinate Hispanic Heritage Month activities.  Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries.  We hope to plan activities that celebrate the cultural diversity found among the Latino community at FKES in order to foster pride in one’s own culture and respect and appreciation for the uniqueness of others.
  • Volunteers fluent in spoken Spanish to contact Spanish speaking only families as needed.

When: Duration of school year.
